Home Discourse: Campaign Style Furniture

Zinc Door Bungalow 5 Side Table
Everyone who loves home decor probably has a list, you know - that long list of things they want in their home. Today I'm going to tell you one of those things on my (never ending) list; campaign style furniture. Campaign style furniture has been around since Caesar's time, but it's more traditionally associated with the 18th & 19th century British militia. The cornerstone of campaign furniture are the metal embellished corners and rectangular pull out handles. I really like the look of the metal accents, and even though the style has been around for quite some time, it still looks amazing in present-day homes.

My personal favorite campaign styled furniture if used in a home would have to be either as twin nightstands or one big statement dresser. I've seen campaign style furniture in all sorts of colors from kelly green to bright canary yellow - it transforms the furniture into an eclectic piece and in the right decor, it could really ground the entire room. However, I think the pieces will look great in any decor style.

If you're really on a budget and can't afford the pieces, Target actually has a campaign styled desk and campaign styled side tables that are only $80 each! (see my six picks below for the link). They don't have the metal corners, but that's easily DIYable! You can purchase the metal corners yourself from a hardware store for only $5 a piece and recreate the look yourself on any square or rectangular furniture piece for a tiny fraction of the price. Speaking candidly here, I'm probably going to spruce up some of the Ikea furniture in my own apartment by using these metal hardwares myself!

Other sources for campaign furniture? Definitely keep your eye out on Etsy, Craigslist, estate sales, and flea markets since a good portion of campaign style furniture is vintage. If you're into DIY, just look out for furniture that has square corners so you can easily pop on those metal corners.
