Product Review: Kat von D Tattoo Liner

It's really hard for me to find a good liquid liner since I have hooded eyes. Basically, every eye liner has a tendency to smudge or disappear within one hour on my eyelids and it also doesn't help that I have oily lids. The Kat von D Tattoo liner is the best liner I've tried. Although it's not perfect for my hooded eyes, it's lasted on my eyelids the longest compared to other liners.

Review

As I mentioned earlier, because of the way my eyelids are shaped, most eyeliners disappear on me within a couple hours. The Kat von D Tattoo liner is no exception, but it has the honor of being the longest lasting liner I've ever tried. On my eyes (with setting powder), it lasts around 5-6 hours. I've tried Stila's liquid liner which is another option, but it flaked on me almost immediately after application.
Application wise, it's a dream. The tip of the liner stays sharp, and like the description says, it doesn't fray. The color payoff is great and the product comes out very dark and pigmented. The tip is able to draw a thick line or a thin line depending on how you hold it to your eyelid. For those of you with normal double eyelids or non-hooded eyes, it's definitely a long-wearing liner. However, the product does have a "tar" like texture. What I mean by that is that the formula is a little sticky. If you do go over a line to make it thicker, you might find the product "sticking" to the line that you already drew. To avoid this, resoak the tip by putting the top back on and go over the line again. Lastly, when it comes to removal, a cotton pad soaked with Bioderma gets all the liner off easily.

TL;DR

You should purchase this product if:

  • You want a long-lasting liquid liner.
  • You want to be able to draw both a fine lines and thick lines from your liquid liner.
  • You want a liquid liner tip that doesn't fray or split.
  • You want a liner that doesn't stain your eyelids when you remove it.

You should not purchase this product if:

  • You dislike somewhat "sticky" formulation liners.

Concluding Remarks

The Kat von D Tattoo Liner is available exclusively at Sephora. If you suffer from hooded or monolid eyes like me, give this liner a try. It might be the longest lasting liner that you will have ever tried as well. If not, Sephora has a great return policy anyway. I think the formulation is really great, and in my personal opinion it is much better than the Stila liner.
