Product Review: Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder

Up for review today is the beautifully packaged Tatcha Polished Classic Rice Enzyme Powder. If you don't know the brand, Tatcha creates products that are inspired by traditional Japanese skincare, specifically beauty rituals and customs that were used by the Geisha. With that in mind, the products promote skincare that results in natural, clear, and even skintone while looking healthy from the inside out. The rice enzyme powder is one of their flagship products and one of the more unique exfoliators currently available on the beauty market.

Beauty Discourse: DIY Coconut Rose Sugar Scrub

If you celebrate Christmas, I hope everyone had an amazing and memorable holiday! I just got back from California myself, and I can't believe I'm already back in NYC! While I had a restful holiday, I'm also sad that the heart of the holiday season is already over and that I had to say goodbye to my family in California. Still, I'm going to ride the Christmas spirit because today's post is an extremely easy beauty DIY - a coconut rose sugar body scrub that I gifted to my family & friends (to the girls of course!).

Beauty Discourse: My Favorite Beauty Items - Holiday Edition

There are a couple items that I bring out every year during the holiday season because incorporating them into a makeup look makes me feel all that more festive. It's going to be no surprise that most of the beauty items are primarily red or gold, but the combination of the two during the holiday season is always a safe bet! I'll be jetting back to California this week to visit my family during Christmas, so today's post will be the last post before my short hiatus!

Product Review: Belif Aqua Bomb Moisturizer

Belif is one of the Korean beauty brands that are exclusively available at Sephora here in the States. It's a fairly new brand both in America and in South Korea as it is LG's newest beauty line. The whole line is fairly affordable with the most expensive item being at $48. Their star product that they are known for is the Aqua Bomb, a gel cream that "floods" the skin with hydration without leaving your skin oily and greasy.

Fall & Winter Beauty Empties - Products I've Recently Used Up

I've recently finished up a lot of beauty products just in time for a fall/winter beauty empties post. Most of these are empties that I used in my summer routine. I actually really enjoy and look forward to beauty empty posts, because it allows me to reflect and evaluate whether a product really worked for me. I have eight beauty empties in this post today. Some products I've already repurchased and started using, and others will probably be the last bottle I will have used for the foreseeable future.

My Updated Winter Skincare Routine

Last week I wrote about three products that I've been using that have totally transformed my skin (post here). All three of those products are in my current winter skincare routine. Winter is a tough time for skin. I feel like no matter how much I moisturize my skin, it still is prone to flaking in the winter time. Oddly enough, I also feel like I break out slightly more often during the transition period from fall to winter for reasons unknown. All in all, winter is definitely not ideal time for my skin, but I really love the products I've been using lately to combat winter skin!

Black Friday Spoils - Alexander Wang Mini Emile Bag

I've always wanted an Alexander Wang bag, his design aesthetic is edgy, bold, modern, with a slight rocker edge. It's right on par with my own personal style! I admired the Rocco duffle when it first came out, but it was just way too heavy and too big for my personal tastes. There just wasn't a bag that I loved enough to justify splurging, until I saw the new mini Emile marked off for 40% off during this year's Black Friday sales.

Currently Loving - Real Techniques Stippling Brush

Maybe I'm a little late to the party when it comes to the stippling brush by Real Techniques, but as the saying goes, better late than never! I own several Real Techniques brushes already, but for some reason I never added the stippling brush to my collection. Perhaps it's because my skin didn't start clearing up until recently earlier this year, and hence I needed move coverage in my everyday makeup. No matter the case, this brush is serious business and I love the finish it provides!

Three Products That Have Transformed My Skin

How is it already December?? Honestly how is Fall over already? I can't believe that snowy cold weather is just around the corner. But moving on! I've been on a huge skincare kick lately and I'm lucky to have found several products that have really done amazing things for my skin! After incorporating Pixi Glow Tonic, Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate, and the Super Multi-Corrective Cream also by Kiehls, into my skincare routine, I've noticed observable and tangible results to my skin.

Gift Guide for the Home

This will be my last post for the 2015 year gift guide series! All of us know that one person who loves shopping for their home and is always on the hunt for new beautiful things to add to their collection. As a home decor lover myself, I've recommended a couple items that are in my own home as well as other items I've bookmarked and been eyeing myself. As with the other gift guides, the gifts in this post are from various price points starting from $15 to $75.

Guide Guide for Him

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! The third post in my gift guide series is for the men in your life! I have to say, this category is always the most difficult for me to write because I try to recommend more unique gifts in this category. This year, with a little help from my boyfriend, I think I've found some pretty unique gifts that should surprise the men in your life!

Gift Guide for Makeup

The next gift guide is for makeup & beauty lovers. In this category, I chose to feature brands and products that are raved about in the beauty blogger scene. Some of them I've personally recommended here on the blog, and others have been consistently recommended by other beauty bloggers and Youtubers. The gifts here in this guide guide range from $25 to $80.

Gift Guide for Skincare & Body

It's the week of Thanksgiving but retail land is already in full holiday swing and it seems that every brand has already come out with their holiday gift kits. Similar to last year's gift guides (see them here), I always feature gifts that I personally would love to receive and give away to friends and family. I also try to range the gift prices from affordable (around $30) to reasonably pricey (under $100). Today's gift guide will be for the skincare and body care lovers!

Beauty Haul from Sephora

I got a few goodies from the Sephora VIB 20% off sale that just passed. I was very meticulous and picky about what I got! After editing my cart around three times, I finally trimmed down my purchase to three new to me items. Some of the items I bought are repurchases of some of my must haves, and some have been on my wishlist for quite some time.

Product Review: Pixi Glow Tonic

Glow Tonic by Pixi has been on my beauty wishlist for forever but this concoction has just recently made it's way stateside from our neighbors across the big pond in England. I've watched loads of videos of people just raving about Glow Tonic so I knew when it was finally available at Target I definitely was going to snatch a bottle up. I'm so glad I did and it's definitely not over-hyped!

Home Discourse: Book-Matched Stone Slabs

I love marble in a home, I mean who doesn't love marble? But let's talk about book-matched marble, which in my opinion is marble with a little special twist. As per wikipedia, book-matched marble is "the practice of matching two (or more) wood or stone surfaces, so that two adjoining surfaces mirror each other, giving the impression of an opened book." Book-matched marble (or any other stone) immediately catches your eye and makes an amazing design statement. I think it looks really modern and definitely makes the space more special.

Beauty Discourse - New Skincare Buys & Gearing Up My Skin for Winter

Despite the abnormally warm 70 degree weather NYC had last week, I've bought some new more heavy duty products to help my skin brave the cold winter. Plus, I've already finished my summer/fall moisturizer, a serum, and a cleansing oil (consider this a preview of a future empties post!). I also have my eye on a couple things during the Sephora 20% off sale that's going to start next week, but in the meantime, check out what's new on my beauty shelf.

A Heart to Heart - A Reflection on the "Let's Be Game Changers" Movement by Essena O'Neill

I try to keep it light, fun, and controversial free here on A Glossy Discourse, but after viewing Essena O'Neill's, a former model and frequent SMS user, heartfelt video about the dark side of social media, I really wanted to write a heart to heart here on the blog. For this Monday's post, I want to write a rather personal post on what I think has become an important discourse for discussion in an age where social media has the ability to exert tons of influence over society.

Product Review: H&M Beauty Products

I finally got around to purchasing a couple items from H&M's new massive 700+ beauty and makeup line that just recently launched. For a brand that is as pervasive and common as Starbucks, it's actually kind of hard to find stores that carry their makeup and beauty line! Furthermore, I found out that the only store in all of New York City that carries the entire line is H&M's (new) Flagship Store in Herald Square. Unfortunately for me, I was at their prior flagship store on 5th Avenue which only carried the makeup line - and not all of it I might add. But enough ranting! Let's get on with the review!

Trend Discourse: Plaid Coats

It's already November which means that it's the start of chillier weather here in NYC. Good news is, that means warm but chic coats can be brought out from the closet! Since I already have (one too many) black wool coats, I'm currently on the lookout for a fun statement coat and I think a plaid coat may be just the thing I need to add to my fall/winter wardrobe. I'm highly considering a red plaid coat, but I am also a sucker for darker plaid patterns like forest green and navy!

For the Love of Makeup - Face Paint by Lisa Eldridge

Happy November!! After several delays in shipment and issues with the book being dispatched from Amazon, I finally got my hands on Lisa Eldridge's new book Face Paint. Those of you who are frequent readers of my blog know I love Lisa Eldridge and she's probably my favorite makeup artist that is on Youtube. The wait was worth it, as the book is gorgeous, informative, and just overall an interesting read! If you love makeup and beauty, it's definitely something you should have on your bookshelf.

Happy Halloween!

I bring out this cat-ear hat every year around Halloween and this year it's no exception! It's a fun way to incorporate a little bit of the Halloween spirit without having to put on a full costume. I only wish that I could dress up in something fun at work, but unfortunately I have to wear suits in my profession! I'm also loving my new cat framed sunglasses by Quay (get it here). You can get a similar cat-ear hat here and a beanie version here. Lastly, don't forget to check out photos of my trip to Green-Wood Cemetery here, for some gorgeous Gothic architecture that's perfect for Halloween.

Currently Loving - Nike Black and White Roshe Ones

I was never a huge sneakerhead, but ever since I moved to NYC from California, I've realized the importance of super comfy shoes because the city is a walking city. These aren't my first black and white sneakers from Nike as I also have a pair of black and white flyknit Nike Frees (another favorite of mine). I really love black and white sneakers especially, because although sneakers by nature are super casual, black and white sneakers can still look really chic.

Five Fall Favorites

We're in the heart of Autumn here in NYC, and I'm loving every minute of it! It's without a doubt my favorite season, and I'm going to be so sad when it's over. Autumn in NYC is gorgeous, and with all the trees changing colors, the sound of the wind blowing crispy leaves across the pavement, the crisp wind, and sipping pumpkin spice lattes - there isn't another time during the year where I'm happier walking through the city. Click through to see some of my current fall favorites!

Product Review: Kiehl's Super Multi Corrective Cream

Up for review today is the Super Multi-Corrective Cream by Kiehls! Since winter is coming in a month or two, I decided to purchase a more hydrating cream (post to come soon about my other new beauty buys for winter). I love skincare by Kiehls and have had good experiences with their products since I was first introduced to the brand in college and used their Ultra Facial Moisturizer. This all in one anti-aging cream claims to lift, smooth, sculpt, retexturize and moisturize skin.

Borrowed from the Boys - Old Spice Amber Body Wash

The other day I was at Target perusing the Halloween decorations among other things, and I remembered that my boyfriend was running low on his own body wash. Naturally, I grabbed a bottle of his usual body wash (Timber or Bearglove which are also made by Old Spice), but then another scent caught my eye from the description - Amber with Black Currant. I actually love the smell of black currant, so I had to take a whiff. Luckily I did, because this stuff smells amazing!

I ❤ NY: History & Scenery at Green-Wood Cemetery

I finally made it out to Green-Wood Cemetery last week during a beautiful crisp but sunny fall day. I know what you're thinking, why would you go walk the grounds of a cemetery? when I told some of my friends that I was doing this, they gave me a weird look too. But it's actually a historic park full of history and gorgeous monuments. It's hard to find such a large green space in any of the five boroughs of NYC (besides Central Park), and it's even more difficult to find a place in NYC where you don't feel like you're in a metropolitan area. It was such a peaceful park and it wasn't creepy at all (during the day at least). Green-Wood also has a tranquility garden that's more modern and features a beautiful koi pond. It's become one of my favorite places in NYC, and with Halloween right around the corner, I thought it was an appropriate post!

Scenes From My Short Trip to Chicago

If you follow me on Instagram you will know that I took a short trip to Chicago a couple weeks ago. Up until this recent trip, I hadn't been back to Chicago for around 10 years or more. It was memorable for me to visit all the places I went as a child, especially the Shedd Aquarium! I highly recommend checking out the Shedd Aquarium, it's one of my favorite aquariums that I've been to! Lastly, I also recommend making a reservation at Little Goat diner for some amazing brunch!

Beauty Buys - Sephora's Soko to Tokyo Sample Box

I'm sorry for the lack of posts in the past two weeks! I've been swamped with personal errands, work, and I also just got back from a trip to Chicago! I'm back on track with my normal posting schedule, and today's post is about a new beauty box I picked up from Sephora! I picked this box up after my cousin pointed it out to me. I don't usually purchase these deluxe sample boxes because there is always only one or two products I want to try out from the entire box. However I wanted to try practically all the products in this box!

Home Discourse: Glamorous Closets

"Should we get you a ring?" "No, just get me a really big closet!" - said Carrie Bradshaw to Big. If you are a shopoholic or even have a slight inclination to buying pretty clothes and accessories, chances are you also dream about an amazing and beautiful closet to showcase you wardrobe. While most of us aren't as lucky as the fictional Carrie Bradshaw (her closet in the movie was so gorgeous!!), maybe we can strive to have a third of the size and glamour of her closet? Right now my closet is bursting at the seams, and I'm just counting down the days until I move into a bigger place! Until then, I'll just admire these amazing closets that are essentially as big as my bedroom in NYC. Lastly, the next post will be on Wednesday! I'm taking a nice short vacation to Chicago, and next week's post will be posted on Wednesday.

Beauty & Non-Beauty Tips that May Help Alleviate Your Acne

If some of you don't know my acne story, essentially I had clear acne-free skin right until I went back to graduate school. All of a sudden, I was suffering from terrible huge cystic acne that couldn't be covered up no matter how much concealer I used. Since graduating and discovering Effaclar Duo, my acne is much better and manageable. I'll be sharing seven tips in this post, both beauty and nonbeauty related that could help you get your acne in a more manageable state.

Currently Loving - Lancome Rouge in Love's Rose Tea

The little black dress, your perfect red lipstick, the ideal fitting jeans - all things that are hard to find, but once you do you're beyond elated! I'm mentioning these things because I've found my perfect neutral nude lipstick in the color 200B Rose Tea by Lancome. It's funny that it turns out that Lancome's Rouge in Love lipstick would also be my perfect neutral nude lipstick, because Sequence in Love, is already my perfect red lipstick. I absolutely love the formula, the color payoff, and the fact that it's in between a matte and shiny finish.

Six Transitional Pieces From Summer to Fall

First off, my apologies for last week and this week's erratic posting schedule! I've been so busy on with work and other personal activities on the weekend that I've fallen behind on my posts! Please expect posts to go back to a Monday, Wednesday, and Friday posting schedule starting next week. It's finally mid-September and I seriously hope all the hot and humid weather is now behind us. I'm super antsy to start wearing my leather jackets, sweaters, and boots. I'm fully aware that my personal summer "style" isn't so much a style as it is a struggle to keep myself from sweating up a flood in the NYC humidity. I feel personally that my personal style really comes out when the weather starts getting cooler. However, the transitional period between hot hot summer and crisp fall can be a struggle. Click through for six pieces that I think can carry any wardrobe from summer to fall.

Currently Craving - Emily Current and Meritt Elliott's Gorgeous New PBteen Collection

I don't think I've ever liked a home decor/furniture collection that was meant for "teens" as much as this one by Emily Current & Meritt Elliott. The entire collection is slightly edgy, glamorous, but whimsical all at the same time. It's hard represent all three of those design elements in one collection! The collection is heavy handed in the gold arena (not that I mind) and geared towards "teens." I absolutely see several of these items in my own home. And I have to mention, the collection is priced for the working young adult - I mean, the gold bookcase up there is currently "on sale" for $500! So click through the jump, and see some more of the gorgeous offerings in this collection!

Product Review: Be the Skin Power Botanical Serum

I hope everyone had an amazing Labor Day weekend! I'm almost done with my Innisfree Sparkling Mineral Water Essence (reviewed here), so I recently picked up a new serum by Be the Skin (a Korean skincare brand) as the new serum in my skincare routine. I've never tried anything by Be the Skin before, but I've read good things about the brand and how they offer great products for an affordable price. Their most expensive product is priced at $39, while the entire product line ranges from $25 - $39.

Home Discourse: Herringbone & Chevron Patterned Floors

I can't decide if I love herringbone or chevron floors better - they're both so pretty! Not only that, do I like wide planks or slim planks more? Decisions, decisions. One thing is for sure, I definitely think that herringbone and chevron floors add more design interest to a space, and my dream home would have these floors. Even if it's not an option for the floors to be in the pattern, it's still just as amazing as a kitchen backsplash, bathroom accent tile, or fireplace tile.

Product Review: Berrisom My Lip Tint Pack in Virgin Red

Today's product review is a lip product that is unique and a first for me! Berrisom's lip tint pack is a tinted lip product that, get this, you peel off your lips. I usually don't really use lip tints all that often, I find that most of them are drying and accentuate the wrinkles in your lips, however this product was so interesting that I just had to try it! The product states that it's supposed to last a whopping 12 hours per application. Click through to read my review and to see how long it lasted on my lips!

Trend Discourse: The Double Layer Dress

I think I first saw this dress silhouette on the Chanel runway a couple seasons ago in 2010. Chanel had dresses that looked like separates but it was really one piece that was cut to make it look like it had a separate top and bottom. Although I thought it was really flattering, the style didn't flood into the market like other trends until recently. It's such a ladylike and playful silhouette that I think works well as a casual everyday dress or a party dress. Better yet, since it cuts right at the high waist, it gives the illusion of a slimmer waist (which is always welcomed, right?).

Currently Craving - Fall Inspired Candle Scents

While I'm currently writing this post, I'm burning Spiked Cherry Limesicle by Bath and Body Works and although the smell is this delicious fruity cherry scent, I'm already finding myself longing for more the more spicier and woody scents that fall evokes. Fall is my favorite season since I love brisk mornings, pumpkin spice lattes, and being able to stay outdoors all day without breaking a drop of sweat. To bring a little bit of fall inside my home, these are some of the candles that are on my wishlist (once I burn through all my summer scented candles...).

Link Love: What NYC Smells Like in the Summer, Baby Panda Twins, & a Travel Cheat Sheet

1. NOVELTY: What does summer in NYC smell like? From a perfumer's and sommelier's nose that is! Although I agree with some of the scents they describe, the other scents they came across really surprised me!

2. VIDEO: As a kid I always wondered how luggage got from the baggage check in kiosk to the bunker of the plane I'm going on. As an adult I'm still curious, but finally this video shows the long and complicated process of how your baggage goes from your hands, all the way to the luggage carousel of your destination.

3. HOME: I love houses that combine traditional with the modern. It adds an unexpected design element and it makes the home all the more unique. This Georgian style house has breathtaking moulding and millwork, but it also has modern windows, glass enclosures, and furniture.

4. NOVELTY: Two giant baby panda twins were born earlier this week at the zoo in Washington DC!

5. BEAUTY: Ever since visiting Taiwan when I was in college, I noticed that Asian cosmetics tended to be more "cute" and playful with their packaging than their Western counterparts. Korean beauty products are no exception to this rule. Read how this cute packaging trend is affecting other products globally.

6. TRAVEL: Check out this wonderful pictorialgram that is like a mini cheat sheet of the best places to see, eat, and visit in some of the best travel destinations in the world.

Beauty Discourse: Making Your Eyeliner Last for Hooded Eyes

I know I'm not the only person with hooded eyelids to have a huge problem with making eyeliner last. After one of my lovely readers commented that the Club Clio Kill Black liner disappeared on her lids within 15 minutes, I knew I had to write a post about how I personally keep my eyeliner from disappearing. I can't guarantee that my method will work for everyone with hooded or monolids, but it's at least worth a shot to see if it'll work for your eyes!

Trend Discourse: Regal Cape Dresses & Blazers

Image Source: Lavish Alice Navy Cape Blazer & White Cape Dress

First cape jackets - now cape dresses and blazers. I first saw the cape dress when Valentino debuted it on the runway a couple seasons ago. Then Solange Knowles donned the white Valentino gown for her wedding and it became known as a dress that was unique, different, but still utterly elegant. When shorter cocktail length cape gowns began trickling into stores, I was really excited to purchase one since I just love the look of a cape gown. Then just recently, brands began coming out with blazer capes which I thought was also pretty chic. Although I am partial to the cape gown, I can see myself possibly wearing a blazer cape with the right outfit.

Home Discourse: My Current Home Decor Wishlist

As stressful as it's become in my boyfriend's and my hunt for a new apartment, I'm still trying to be optimistic by repeatedly telling myself, "Good things come to those who wait." I've been biding my time by waiting to buy new furniture until we find our new place and have been bookmarking furniture pieces that (if they work with the new space) I would be purchasing. As you can tell from the photo above, I tend to love gold, marble, and bold accessories.

Product Review: Missha Time Revolution the First Essence

It took me a while to finish IOPE's Bio Essence (full review here), but I recently finished up the whole bottle and now I finally am able to use Missha's Time Revolution Essence. Missha's particular essence is often referred to as the SKII dupe unlike the other essences on the market. Priced at $49, it is in the midrange price bracket for essences being more expensive than Nature Republic's essence but less expensive than IOPE's Bio Essence.

Home Discourse: Cleverly Placed Statement Mirrors

The one interior design element that's been catching my eye lately are cleverly placed oversized mirrors in spaces that are not bathrooms. Mirrors can make such a huge difference in a space because it reflects everything making the space feel bigger than it really is. I admire designers that know exactly where to place a mirror and how big the mirror has to be to really transform the space. If it's placed right, the mirror acts like an optical illusion to the point where you may think it's another room! I think oversized mirrors that take up an entire wall are especially useful in smaller spaces where you want to create depth while also reflecting light into a dark space.

Currently Loving - Mamonde Flower Essential Facial Sheet Masks

Ever since discovering these Mamonde Flower Essential sheet masks in Korea last Fall (read about my trip here and here!), they've become the sheet masks that I most often reach for. They're affordable, smell great, and there is a total of 16 different types of masks to choose from. When I saw these masks in Korea, I wanted to buy all of them!

Trend Discourse: 70's Inspired Suede

The first time I was exposed to 70's fashion was through photographs of my mother when she was young. I saw her with super long straight hair in the spitting image of Cher, long and wide bell bottom pants, a boxy flowing blouse, with a shoulder strap bag not all too different from the Celine box bag. 70's inspired fashion is coming back full force. All I see are carriage bags, fringe, suede, and now the quintessentially 70's bell-bottom style pants are even coming back. Now I'm not saying suede clothing equals the 70's, but instead it's the cut, the accessories, and the way the suede pieces are styled that represents 70's inspired fashion.

Home Discourse: Black versus White Kitchens

Black Kitchen - Tamara Magel   ||   White Kitchen Cynthia Carlson
Light versus dark - a constant comparison I'm always struggling with, for kitchen designs that is! I constantly waver between whether I like kitchens with dark cabinetry more, or white cabinetry. Although gray is becoming a popular option, there is something really classic and chic about kitchens which black or white cabinetry. Regardless of black or white cabinetry though, I really love it when kitchens have gold hardware. Black or white? Click through to decide for yourself!
