I ❤ NY: Blue Ribbon Sushi

If you've been a reader for a while, it'll come to no surprise to you that this is another sushi post. I'm a self-professed sushi addict, and I'm on a mission to try all the worthwhile sushi establishments in NYC. Blue Ribbon has been on my list for quite some time now, and since I was in the area already, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to check it off my list.

Sushi & Sashimi Deluxe

Sushi Deluxe

Blue Ribbon sushi is part of a larger restaurant group (Blue Ribbon) and the sushi restaurant on Sullivan street is just one of their restaurants, and one of two total sushi establishments that they own. The restaurant is located on a rather residential street, and it's tucked away underneath a nondescript brownstone. You would easily miss if if you didn't know to look for it! When you step inside it's moody, dark, and a tad bit cozy since the restaurant isn't that large. Blue Ribbon Sushi doesn't take reservations, but it was already almost at full capacity when my friends and I went around 5:30 on a Saturday.

Onto the sushi, the fish is definitely very fresh and generously cut. As you can see from the sushi and sashimi deluxe, the sashimi is cut pretty thick which I always appreciate. The rice wasn't hard, but chewy and slightly vinegary like it should be. You could taste the distinct flavors of each fish, which speaks to the freshness since fish that isn't fresh just tastes like the sharp fish odor you would pass by when in a supermarket (gross I know). I have to note that I usually don't like the ebi (sweet shrimp), but the ebi here at Blue Ribbon is the best I've had. It was so fresh, and it wasn't dry like a lot of other ebi sushi I've had at other sushi establishments.

In conclusion, I can definitely see why Blue Ribbon Sushi has such good reviews and has been a staple sushi establishment in the NYC restaurant scene. Sushi connoisseurs definitely should try the sushi here at least once. In terms of my favorite sushi restaurant so far, it's still Sushi Yasaka followed extremely closely by Sushi Yasuda.
