Product Review: YSL Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stain in #11 Rouge Gouache

YSL makes some of the best lip products in my opinion, and I was looking for a lip product that had the lasting power of a lip stain, the color payoff of a lipstick, but most importantly a product that did not make my lips dry out. I didn't know such a lip product with these three qualities existed until I tried YSL's lip lacquer lip stain. I have a similar lip shade color from Innisfree's Color Glow lip line (reviewed here). Review

This lip lacquer really does stay on your lips. When I wear it, I can get a generous 4 hours of wear out of a single application. If I reapply a thin layer of it once every 2-3 hours, it would go the full day until I take it off. There is definitely some sort of alcohol in the product, which is surprising to me because alcohol usually dries out my lips. However, some sort of magic happens when you apply this to your lips. When you first put it on, it's tacky but feels cooling on the lips. After you spread it over your lips, you feel it setting. When it sets, it sets in a glossy finish that lasts throughout the day. The finish of the lip lacquer is incredible because it makes it look like you just freshly applied the stain. Rouge Gouache is a bright vivid magenta fuchsia color that really gives you a pop of color. As you can see the shade is really similar to Innisfree's Color Glow Lipstick in Maple Burgundy, but has a shinier glossier finish.

  • PROS: long lasting, excellent color payoff, doesn't dry out or accentuate flakes on your lips.
  • CONS: a bit pricey, contains some sort of alcohol.

Concluding Remarks

YSL's Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stains are available at most department stores and Sephora. Because lip products tend to dry out my lips especially if they are advertised as a lip stain, I'm entirely in love with the formula with these lip stains. I can confidently say it is my top lip stain/lip lacquer product. Highly recommend, and I do think it is worth the $38 especially if you find a bright color as well as a nude color that works well with your skin tone!
