Four Summer Skincare Product Essentials

Like last year, I'll be taking a short post hiatus due to the upcoming July 4th weekend! This will be my last post for the next week or so. I feel like summer and winter are the hardest months in terms of skincare. In the winter you feel like you can't moisturize your skin enough, while in the summer you want to hydrate but you don't want to feel like a grease pit. For the summer months I personally try to use products that are light in texture but still deliver ample hydration. I usually rotate my skincare products seasonally, but there are four types of skincare products that I always have in my summer skincare routine (besides sunscreen) that I feel provide my skin with the hydration it needs without feeling weighed down.

Gel Cream Moisturizers

The most important product in my entire summer skincare routine is a gel cream moisturizer. I have oily skin so I certainly cannot use a full on cream moisturizer during the day in the summer. I remember back in college it was almost impossible to find a gel moisturizer that was hydrating enough. In the past two years I feel like companies have created amazing gel moisturizers that don't lack in the hydration department. My personal recommendations are the Aqua Bomb by Belif (reviewed here), the Pure Artemisia Watery Calming Gel Cream by Hanyul (new to me but I already love it!), and for something a bit more luxurious Sunday Riley's Tidal water cream is lovely (review here).

Face Mist or Sprayable Toner

I love sprayable toners and I decant all my toners into mist bottles if they don't already come with a sprayable top. It's especially relaxing and lovely in the summer months! For the summer months I prefer a fresh smelling toner/face mist that doesn't necessarily hydrate but instead prepares my face to soak in a gel moisturizer. I'm currently using the Facial Toner by Dr. Hauschka, testing out the Pure Artemisia Fresh Calming Water by Hanyul (smells like a spa!), but an old favorite of mine is the Caudalie Beauty Elixir as well as the Blue Green Algae Toner by Michael Todd.

Light Gel Serum

To ensure that my skin is getting hydrated past the outer layers of my skin, I still use a serum in the summer months but I switch to a lighter textured serum. My favorite types of serums to use in the summer are usually clear colored and slightly thicker than water but thinner than a gel moisturizer. Currently I'm still finishing up the Rose Absolute First Serum by Aromatica, but I recently just purchased the Brightening Sparkling Water Pop Essence by Laneige which sprays out a bubbly cold essence that actually lowers the temperature of your skin which then naturally curbs oil production - can't wait to use it!

Alpha Hydroxy Acid Exfoliator

Can't forget to exfoliate especially in the summer months! I don't have any other product recommendations in this category besides the Glow Tonic by Pixi (reviewed here) because it's just that amazing. As you can see I'm almost out, but I plan to purchase the full sized when I run out.
