Product Review: May Coop Raw Sauce

If you're a longtime reader you'll know that I swear by essences and I'm on a mission to try as many essences as I can! Since May Coop, a Korean skincare brand that utilizes the sap from a maple tree in their products, was readily available at Sephora I obviously had to try it! It comes in a nice substantial frosted glass bottle, and the packaging is also really thoughtful in that it comes with its own drawstring bag which is really convenient for traveling or reusing it to store other items such as makeup brushes. Because the essence is thicker than water, I was really looking forward to comparing it to other water-like essences I've tried.

May Coop Raw Sauce, 5.07oz
Price: $43

A hydrating, nourishing essence featuring a silky formula that's highly concentrated in maple tree sap to create a stronger skin environment, helping prep the skin to better absorb products to follow and boosting their effectiveness.

Acer Mono Sap, Alcohol, Glycerin, PEG-8, Sea Water Maris Aqua (Sea Water), Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Water, Betula Alba Bark/Leaf Extract, Castanea Sativa (Chestnut) Bark Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Extract, Pinus Sylvestris Bark Extract, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Fruit Extract, Vaccinium Vitis-Idaea Fruit Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Fruit Extract, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Flour Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Zea Mays (Corn) Germ Extract, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Extract, Biosaccharide Gum-1, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Methylparaben, Carbomer, Arginine, Panthenol, Creatine, Butylene Glycol, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, Phenoxyethanol, Fructan Powder, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Parfum, Sodium Hyaluranate, CI 15510.

Just take a look at that texture - most essences are water like but the Raw Sauce is thicker and more similar to a serum. Because of its unique thicker than water texture, I've seen some people use it as a binder for things such as mix to create masks, and even as a skin prepper for sheet masks. I personally have not tried either of those things yet, but I'm pretty sure it's a great way to supercharge your other skincare products. In terms of using it as a stand alone essence, it's so moisturizing and definitely more moisturizing than an essence that is more like water. Unfortunately since it's summer here, I won't really be able to use it on a daily basis until fall and winter comes around. It has a nice sweet scent to it, but again I prefer my essences to be fragrance free. The scent is definitely not enough to deter me away from using up the entire bottle though. At $43, it's not incredibly expensive but I feel like it would be money well spent as I think it really does absorb into your skin well.

Concluding Remarks

If you're looking for an essence that's highly moisturizing you should definitely give Raw Sauce a chance. It's the most moisturizing essence that I've tried and would probably incredible to use in the winter months. For those with dry skin all year round, this would be the perfect essence for you. May Coop Raw sauce is available in two sizes at Sephora so you can test it out for an affordable $14 before making the commitment to the full size.
